Jefferson (D-R) is elected by the U.S. House of Representatives after no candidate received a majority votes from electors on December 3, 1800. Jefferson defeats John Adams (F), Aaron Burr (D-R), John Jay (F), and Charles Pinckney (F). He is inaugurated in March 1801.*
